State Chapter Network Building

Our Mission

State Chapters work year-round to strengthen democracy—shifting focus each year to meet the moment:

  • Election Years (even-numbered): Energize voters, expand participation, and counter suppression through Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts.

  • Non-Election Years (odd-numbered): Expose and oppose corruption and authoritarian behavior in government while promoting transparency and sound governance.

  • In the long term, Chapters aim to grow their membership, nurture new leaders, and build strong, interconnected communities committed to democratic values.

Getting Started

Each new Chapter begins with a few simple steps: meet, share interests, set goals, and choose facilitators. Together, members outline priorities, plan projects, and form action teams around shared objectives.

Building the Network

As more Chapters form, they connect into a nationwide impact network linked for mutual learning and support. A central ESD Core Team provides mentoring, organizing tools, and education on issues. Representatives from each Chapter meet regularly to share insights, strategies, and progress.

Working with Partners

Chapters collaborate with nonprofits and civic groups aligned with democratic principles. Steps include:

  • Identify potential partner organizations in your area.

  • Review their missions and initiatives.

  • Reach out to local leaders.

  • Plan and launch joint projects that advance shared goals.

Election-Year Focus

When election season arrives, Chapters:

  • Map out key districts and demographics.

  • Coordinate with regional partners.

  • Design GOTV campaigns tailored to local voter groups.

  • Act, adjust, and refine plans as opportunities evolve.

Non-Election-Year Focus

Between elections, Chapters turn to accountability—tracking state and local government actions, exposing anti-democratic efforts, and promoting good governance. Members identify concrete steps to confront corruption, misinformation, and authoritarian behavior while amplifying positive reforms.

Active Chapters

State Chapters are now active in California, Washington, and Wisconsin—with more on the way. Each Chapter maintains its own page on this website, featuring current projects, updates, and a point of contact for anyone interested in getting involved.
